Today, security cameras are very common, often a necessity. They can be a tremendous asset for your business and home, as they can greatly reduce, deter, and discourage theft.

Most important of all is peace of mind. Home security cameras can provide a sense of well being for someone that travels and wants to keep an eye on their business or home.

Most security cameras record onto an internet based PC or standalone DVR system. However, as technology advances, improvements can be made to improve existing products to provide customers with the most effective and efficient products available.

In order to keep security camera owners up-to-date with the most modern technology, it is now possible to view your home security cameras from an iPhone. What a great advancement…this is technology at work for you. Instead of going to a remote location to view security camera footage or getting access to a computer, all you have to do is take out your iPhone, and see if your home is secure and/or if everything is as it should be at your business. Using an iPhone to check in will save you time, money, and peace of mind.

Saving time and money with security cameras in conjunction with an iPhone is great, but peace of mind is indeed priceless.

Many businesses are making the decision to install security cameras, or other types of surveillance systems, for the primary reason of saving money. Yes, that may sound absurd; however, with the proper installation of various types of surveillance systems, companies are finding out that they can save a lot of money in several key aspects of business. This is true for many types of businesses, although it is most common for restaurant owners and owners of small businesses and retail stores.

One key benefit of security cameras is that they capture everything that happens on tape. This is an easy way to prevent theft from employees and customers. Many businesses may even hang signs to post the use of surveillance equipment onsite. These signs are often enough to deter people from stealing. Another key benefit of cameras is that they can help increase employee productivity. First of all, a company can review tapes to find out what employees do all day. When an employer finds problems with workers, the employer can make appropriate adjustments to fix the problems. When there are productivity problems, a business loses money. By fixing the problem and increasing productivity, efficiency will increase and so will the business’s bottom line.

A common problem that costs businesses money is the subject of injuries, accidents and workers compensation. Injuries commonly occur within businesses. The problem is that some of the injuries are not real. By installing security cameras, a company has a peace of mind when it comes to this subject. Employees and customers may have a harder time faking injuries or accidents because, most likely, the incident will be caught on tape. The tape can be reviewed, and the company may find that the accident was planned. When a company can avoid paying for fraudulent activities, the company will save money.

Finally, one more reason businesses install security cameras is to have the ability to monitor the workplace from another location. With the use of the Internet, a company can often watch camera footage from any location. This is a huge benefit, especially for a business owner who travels frequently.

Congratulations! You are about to create a home theater!

Only two considerations remain—equipment and lighting. The following tips will help you make good choices to get your home theater up and running.

Choosing Equipment:

Home theaters are based on multiple kinds of technology. For example there is Projection, LCD, Plasma, LED, LCD-LED. All have advantages and disadvantages.

Projection-based equipment can feature screens up to 100 inches this is the real lights, camera, action, big screen experience. Think a bit about your room before you pick whether you want more information on projection units.

If you expect to use your theater room strictly as a theater, any system will work well. If, on the other hand, someone will likely be reading the paper, playing a game, or doing home work in one area of the room, stay away from projection systems.

Although screens are smaller (50 to 70 inches), LCD, LED, or Plasma TVs provide a great theater experience. Three types of TV displays are available. Again, issues of light may help you decide which display is best for your room. Plasma screens have a reputation for strong definition between dark and light tones, clear detail, depth, and true-to-life colors. The gas cells of a plasma screen do not permit any light-leaks between cells, giving truer and deeper black levels than LCD screens.

Anyone who owns an LCD flashlight knows that LCD means light and plenty of it. An LCD screen features brighter display and more intense colors than plasma. An LCD screen is the perfect choice for a room with high ambient light, whether from daylight or adjacent areas.

LED TVs are a pretty much exactly like LCD TVs, but have two major different features. First one being LEDs consume much less energy then LCDs and Plasmas. The Second is LED TVs are super thin some being 0.5inches thick! So if you are looking for that super slim look LED is the way to go.

Close examination of the kinds of TV display systems will reveal no major differences in picture quality. You may well find that both perform equally well in your room.

Lighting Your Theater:

Why does lighting matter when you plan to turn it off? We can be your professional lighting consultant. I can guarantee you that your theater experience is greatly enhanced by good lighting choices.

A warm, welcoming atmosphere takes more than a theater-system. Think about theaters you have visited and enjoyed. Lighting is often recessed and indirect, bright enough for social conversation—and refreshments!—but generally more even throughout the room than would be the case in your living room. Consider concealed soffit-lighting or evenly-spaced sconces on the walls. If this is a multi-purpose room, place lamps or fixtures for other activities behind viewing-chairs or couches, so as not to introduce glare in the theater area. Dimmable lighting? Absolutely. Place the dimming controls within easy reach of your viewing area or even Control it from your Remote control or iPad!!

You may also wish to place low, small or tightly-focused lamps in your viewing area just to make navigation a bit easier, but these should not cast wide pools of light. Opaque, foil-lined shades or the subdued effects of colored glass shades let you adjust the volume on the remote, grab a tissue, or rescue a tipping popcorn bowl without disturbing other viewers.

Something else to consider is the look of your room once the film is over. To keep your evening going, consider putting a little theater in your theater. Consider dramatic fixtures (dimmable, of course) on both sides of your screen. A good film sparks good conversation, and you may wish to compensate for a large expanse of now-blank screen, as your guests get down to brass tacks about what the director was really thinking. Lighting the screen-area with fun, eye-catching fixtures will keep the evening from coming to an end just because the movie’s over.

Every home theater is different, and that’s where a good lighting consultant comes in. Our professional advice will solve problems before they occur. A home theater, after all, is part of a home. We know how to deal with light from other areas in an open floor-plan, work with your decorating scheme, and provide you with a coherent plan to make your home theater as exciting and enjoyable as you hoped.

Being from New England the forecast says rain and the colder months come sooner then we like. It’s hard to think of anywhere you’d like to go. What a shame? Not any more. You’re going to have a great evening at home, thanks to your new home theater!

Wireless Network Threat #1: Unencrypted Networks

Unencrypted connections are great—they’re easy to set up on your wireless router and all of your devices connect automatically. But because they’re unencrypted, hackers can eavesdrop on all of your wireless traffic. Well, almost all of your wireless traffic—anything that uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption like websites starting with HTTPS will be encrypted.

Unfortunately, although Facebook and GMail and other sites use SSL for login screens, they don’t use it for their regular connections. In these cases, hackers can still break into your accounts by reading the cookie your Web browser sends to Facebook and Google every time you connect.

If you own the wireless connection, your best solution is to enable encryption on your router. Choose WPA encryption if possible, but on older routers you’ll need to settle for WEP. See the next section for information on the risks of WEP.

If you don’t own the wireless connection, for example you’re at a library or coffee shop, then you need to protect your connection by using one of the plug-ins for your browser which force Facebook, Gmail, and other services to use SSL.

Wireless Network Threat #2: WEP

The Wired Equivalence Privacy (WEP) system was part of the original specification for wireless Internet, but within a few years of being released, hackers figured out how to break it. In 2007, three crypto analysts broke into a WEP connection using a 1.7 GHz laptop in less than 1 minute. They published their technique and now any hacker can use it to eavesdrop on any WEP-protected connection.

WEP has been officially replaced by Wifi Protected Access (WPA), but many old routers only support WEP. If you have an option to use WPA, please use it. If you don’t have support for WPA on your router and you’re concerned about security, you should see if the manufacturer of your router offers a firmware upgrade. Otherwise you should buy a newer router.

Wireless Network Threat #3: Weak Passwords

WPA lets you secure your wireless connection using a password, but this password can be hacked like any other weak password. Because this password helps keep all of your other passwords secure, you should put some extra thought into making it very secure. Besides, you’ll only have to type it once on each computer, so it won’t be much of a hassle to make it extra hard to guess.

I suggest you add a few numbers and some punctuation to your password to help keep hackers from guessing it. Also make sure it’s at least 8 characters long—and preferably 12 characters or more.

Wireless Network Threat #4: Snooping Users:

No matter how secure you make your wireless network using WPA and strong passwords, you still must trust every user you let onto your network. Once users have access to your network, they can snoop on every packet sent on your wireless connection.

For example, if you’re at a hotel which uses WPA and you log into Facebook, any hacker who’s in a nearby room can also use his WPA-protected connection to snoop on your packets. At an office, employees can snoop on the boss’s WPA connection to get access to confidential information.

High-end routers can give each user their own secure connection, or you can just buy separate cheap routers for each class of user—for example, one router for managers and one router for employees.
